Need a good read for my 100th book

Post by macdoc » Sat Dec 01, 2012 2:26 pm

Part way through my 99th and wanted some "best I've read" suggestions for my 100th.

Prefer science ( Song of the Dodo ) , sci-fi ( Anathem ), true stories ( Sea Biscuit ) but will consider top end of any genre.

Bring on the suggestions. :whisper:

Heidegger, Being and Time. It's riveting. Or you could take the easy road and read Moby Dick in Korean.
"A philosopher is a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there. A theologian is the man who finds it." ~ H. L. Mencken

"We ain't a sharp species. We kill each other over arguments about what happens when you die, then fail to see the fucking irony in that."

"It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism while the wolf remains of a different opinion."

No Philosophy please and thanks.

Clarissa....hmmm brat .....9 volumes - I'll save it for some bed ridden future :D

Penguin looks interesting - I like other culture crime - Dragon Tattoo, Smilla's Sense of Snow, Wallander etc

Physics - looks great - actually snagged it as GF is a geek too and will love it.

Keep em coming....

How about Dan Simmons' Hyperion, or start on John Varley's Titan, Wizard, Demon trilogy?

Hyperion is brilliant. Think I've read the Titan trilogy but have to look.

Better Angels sounds good....if only cuz I'm skeptical of the premise :D

Joyce - been there - once is enough
Capote too depressing
Don't know Wilt --- will look up

Apologies if I've skipped any - will digest as I've got a ways to go on the furrie I'm reading ( reminds me of Podykane of Mars in the pace. It certainly gets it's fans - has this Swiftian aspect about gengineered intelligent life forms. Space opera-ish but relaxing read and an interesting start.
Sort of Watership Down meets Guess Who's Coming to Dinner....meets Gulliver's travels... :begging: :what:
