Kindle.

Post by Animavore » Wed Oct 24, 2012 5:59 pm

I'm thinking of asking for a Kindle for Christmas. They're only 80 squids these days. Between the four of them my family can get me one no bother.
Amazon says the new ones are compatible with .pdf files, amongst other formats, but I'm still sceptic about this. I've heard they've been trouble with other formats in the past. Has anyone got the one that they can put my mind at ease.

They don't seem to sell them on this side of the pond.

Can't read anything for any length of time on a PC screen. There's a reason why tl;dr is a common meme. It's just not because people can't be bothered, it's often because the format doesn't bode well for long term reading and causes weariness quickly.

The plus with having a Kindle is you can actually bother reading CES vs Seth posts long tracts because it's just like reading off paper.

Lates.

The three options are:
1) e-ink (kindle or nook)
2) screen size (newer kindles)
3) memory card slot (nook color/tablet)

Afiak, all current non-eInk models can be rootkitted to replace the hobbled android version they ship with by installing generic android. (but don't quote me on that)

I'm the other way around. I can read online for hours.

It's not the kindle this the problem, it's the one-click ordering. Talk about crack cocaine...

I've got the Nook (the original one), but I do have the Kindle app on my tablet and cell phone. One day I hope to get the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight so I can read in the dark.
