Well it was 50 years ago today..

..more or less since the Beatles first single Love Me Do was released. I can't believe it is so long! I was 12 and was part of the lucky generation that saw the world start to 'be in colour'!

Did they change everything?

I'm sure a direct line can be made from them to The X-Factor.

Love Me Do?

Meh.

The real hit that week was Telstar by The Tornados; great tune

It is a bit long for a pop tune in 63. Runs over two minutes.

Well I was born in '63. So The Beatles are all I know. I grew up on them, and they made me the man I am today :smoke:

:ask:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Yes, but probably not with "Love Me Do" or much of the early material. Mind you, that's with the considerable (and perhaps dubious) benefit of hindsight, and not having been there to observe it at first hand. If the Beatles had not been so wildly popular with their early material, the later (and much more influential) songs may never have seen the light of day.

American music was shit in 63, so it would have taken longer to put it back on track. Without the BI. To match teen tastes. And the record executives were selling LPs to adults.

It really annoys me today, when some people slate The Beatles as being shite. They're completely missing the point that... at that time... what they were doing was new and very influential to so many artists that followed them. It's like a Twilight fan knocking Dracula, calling it unoriginal. Fucking duh!

I like far more of their songs than I dislike. And some of them are still bloody perfect, let alone how groundbreaking they were at the time.

The early Beatles was trite pop shite. They got good somewhere past halfway through their history.

Oh so you think the hippie shit was good? And the teen love songs based on some actual teen angst were shit?

Never saw anything special about them. Not particularly fond of their music.
