My favourite book, or close enough.
Sent from my penis using wankertalk.

Really!! :what: ....I'm enjoying it immensely ..- thought it was in fantasy category as I was looking for some long audio books to use up Audible credits....the voices ae well chosen, Karla in particular as well as the narrator. The only flaw was the supposed Canadians which were somewhere out of the Bronx rather than Barrie Ontario.

I'll never go to India but some wonderful stories and movies coming from that immense nation.
This being one

the other is this fav ...I actually understood a bit about cricket.

Just enjoyed an old favorite from my youth.

Me too. The book inspired me to see it.

Perv have you read The Mountain Shadow?? Worthwhile?

Shantaram sounded autobiographical and to a large degree is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_David_Roberts
Roberts reportedly became addicted to heroin after his marriage ended and he lost custody of his young daughter. To finance his drug habit, he turned to crime, becoming known as the "Building Society Bandit"[2] and the "Gentleman Bandit", because he only robbed institutions with adequate insurance. He wore a three-piece suit, and he always said "please" and "thank you" to the people he robbed.[3]
At the time, Roberts believed that his manner lessened the brutality of his acts but, later in his life, he admitted that people only gave him money because he had made them afraid.[4] He escaped from Pentridge Prison in 1980.[1][5]
In 1990, Roberts was captured in Frankfurt, trying to smuggle himself into the country. He was extradited to Australia and served a further six years in prison, two of which were spent in solitary confinement. According to Roberts, he escaped prison again during that time but thought better of it and smuggled himself back into jail. His intention was to serve the rest of his sentence to give himself the chance to be reunited with his family. During his second stay in Australian prison, he began writing Shantaram. The manuscript was destroyed twice by prison staff while Roberts was writing it.[6]
Very engaging writer and an unusual first person look into another world.

Is that the follow up book? I've forgotten the title. In any case it was shit. Not worth the effort.

Rereading the Malazan series after macdoc mentioned them somewhere. I'd forgotten how good Steven Erikson is.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm impressed ...big ask.
Try these if you can located them all

Erikson leaves lasting memories.....

The only better for imagery is China Mielville in Peridido Station ....

Give Shantaram a shot Lak ...I think you'll love it.

I read the first three Chung Kuo when they came out but had trouble sourcing the rest. I really enjoyed them. It appears that the entire series is now available on Kindle (sorry Scot Dutchy) so I'll revisit them once I finish Malazan. Perdidido Station was great. I'll look into Shantaram.

I spent a while getting all the Chung Kuo as well...somewhat more prescient with China ascendant these days.

Scar was the companion to Peridido....not quite as good but I'd love a movie of either...

Spawned a whole art genre

Good book. Spike Lee's movie drew heavily from it.

Nearly finished his book.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrik_Ouředn%C3%ADk

It got too repetitive near the end.

But this got me to womdering: has anybody tried to write a book where the entire content is in one long sentence? Like one of them endless Neil Young songs that have verses but no chorus.

I've actually seen patents where a sentence took more than a page.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice

Our case for survival before it's too late
