Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

For political shows, I think it would be hard to top Yes Minister. Yeah, I'm talking old shows here because I haven't followed TV drama/comedy as closely as I should lately. So, for historical drama both Deadwood and Rome are contenders. For comedy, I really enjoyed The Games.

Those are three of the best shows ever, except for the second series of Rome, which was the planned seasons two and three rolled into one for budgetary reasons.

Another one I still love is Mother and Son. Made in Australia from 1984 to 1994, it aged well. Great cast, brilliant script.

You've already named my favourite TV show of all-time.

Fawtly Towers and Get Smart are two more shows I'd group among the best ever TV series. Also, The Avengers

Speaking of shows who started off well, The Bill comes to mind. The early series were realistic, gritty and almost like a documentary. Over the years it morphed into a soap opera. When the police station was blown up it had well and truly jumped the shark.

Prime Suspect - even the latest version. Tennison

Stefanie Martini is just spectacular. A real loss when they cancelled that. Of course Mirren in legendary in the original 7 seasons.

GoT and Downton Abbey.

I tore through Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Nothing like the books, but refreshing abnormal.
