It's total toss. Bad sfx, way too much zaniness, random plots, too much attention on the assistants, dumb science. But then it is, really, a fairy story meant for children.

I think I'd be nine when it started, and I found it thrilling and unmissable, though I look back now and think Norman Hartnell was a poor bit of casting. I liked Patrick Troughton, but I grew out of it about then.
