I can live with doubt, and uncertainty, and not knowing. I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. [...] I don’t feel frightened by not knowing things, by being lost in a mysterious universe without having any purpose, which is the way it really is, as far as I can tell, possibly. It doesn’t frighten me. - Richard Feynman

My brother and I came home from watching that first run and were laughing so hard we both nearly passed out. My parents immediately packed up and went to see it.

Made the year I was born, and re-run on television ad nauseum as I was growing up. Always puzzled me as a kid. Supposedly it was a comedy. And there were a lot of funny people in it. And yet it remains one of the most extraordinarily unfunny movies I've ever seen

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

I loved it. It was the last great slapstick comedy as far as I'm concerned.tattuchu wrote:Made the year I was born, and re-run on television ad nauseum as I was growing up. I don't know, I haven't seen it in many years. But judging by those clips, I don't think my opinion will have changed. It just leaves me cold. Stone cold. Which is a shame, because like I said there's some great talent in that film. Some very funny people. And yet they're not being particularly funny here.Gawdzilla wrote:I loved it. I haven't seen it for ... many, many years. I have it on DVD (DVDs are dirt cheap here), but I haven't found the time to watch it yet.

I'm exhausted every time I finish it. The energy level is always very high, even during the "slow speed chase." The destruction of the gas station and the scene in the basement of the hardware store are immortal.klr wrote:I haven't seen it for ... many, many years. I'm waiting for a "dead" three-plus hours sometime when I can just sit back and enjoy it. I was very young when I saw it for the first (and only) time. I can't remember much, but I do know that "... they don't make 'em like that anymore".Gawdzilla wrote:I'm exhausted every time I finish it. Damn straight they don't. You'll not see Rochester landing in Abraham Lincoln's arms in a modern movie.klr wrote:I'm waiting for a "dead" three-plus hours sometime when I can just sit back and enjoy it.
