An Idiot Abroad

Post by devogue » Fri Oct 08, 2010 7:51 pm

Without a shadow of a doubt this is the funniest TV series I have ever seen in my life. I find myself literally crying with laughter and in great pain because I can't breathe while watching it.

Ricky Gervais has sent his producer Karl Pilkington to eight different locations and we are treated to his observations which are just unbelievably hilarious. I am savouring each show as it is broadcast - I know I am witnessing TV history and I want to soak up the sheer hilarious shock that only happens on a first viewing. It's on Sky1 every Thursday night.

It's funny alright. I've only seen one episode though. I wish I had my own Sky in my room :(

:cranky: Sky!
In the best laid plans of history lie the ruins of the past
And a chronicle of suffering shows the mythic pall they cast
To believe is true religion, but to see is truth at last
Oh no, too late to hold a trial, time doesn't wait for the watchmaker's dial

Personally I think this guy is an ignorant, narrow minded idiot twat, but also an innocent and what is worse Gervais has exploited these qualities in the worst way. The series stinks and is about as funny as watching a child getting run over by a truck hired by Gervais and Merchant.

Are you serious? It's hilarious. I just went back and watched the first episode. It's classic. I don't think he's been taken advantage of. I think it's a case of being cruel to be kind. I don't think he'd let the series run if he was really that bothered about it.

Innocent my arse rum. If they had sent a retard out to laugh at you might have a point but this guy is just a twat and deserves it
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Its pure exploitation. I don't know how people can't see it.

This guy has been in showbiz for a few years. He even has a book on travel from 2006 Happy Slapped by a Jellyfish. I doubt he's as thick as he lets on. He's a comedian FFS. This is probably all an act.

Oh for fuck's... if he's a producer and he signed on to do the show, it's not exploiting.
Or, otherwise, you have a completely inept grasp of the term.

Well I have just looked this guy up and I withdraw my remarks. The whole thing is set up from start to finish. The guy is a well established producer as you say and been in the 'business' a long time. It all appears more or less to be an act or at the very least an exaggeration of his attitudes. I don't know which I like least mind you. I feel a bit cheated!

God that episode was brilliant. Did you see him trying to eat the worm in the tequila? And boogying to the Human League at the Mayan "Wonder of the world"?
