What you are saying CES is basically "Things were better when I was younger, when I got to experience it for the first time." You said the same about music. Well if you are only willing to lazily be spoonfed the same corporate shit they've been churning out since your youth, obviously it's going to seem clichéd and trite.

In saying that, I do have sympathy with that position when it comes to movies. I can't tell you how many people have gushed to me about things like Christopher Nolan's "Inception" and Batman series. "Oh intelligent action movies". Frankly they were a lot of shite. Same with most of Fincher's output and even Tarantino since Jackie Brown.

However I get that I'm not the target market, so I'm not surprised I didn't really enjoy them.

This is incorrect.

Regarding music, I was referring to whether Rock was dead or not. It wasn't about quality, it was about whether the genre exists in any significant way.

I don't understand your second sentence about me being lazily spoonified the same corporate shit they churned out since youth. I'm not willing to be spoonfed the same shit. That's WHY I find them cliched and trite. I don't like the corporate shit.

I can only say that I've liked some movies that have come out recently, but like you mentioned about the ones that get rave reviews -- I often find them awful. I remember being told to go see "Shutter Island" with Leonardo DiCaprio. I walked in, sat down, and in the first 10 minutes I knew the basic plot.

I don't think this is a "things were better when I was younger" thing. I am not sure they were better then. I just know they suck now. I try to be mindful of the "good old days" motif. We tend to compare the average of today, with the most memorable of the old days, so we ignore the old shit because we didn't like it so we don't remember it.
