Most of the contestants were roboteers by the way, and the technical advisor of that show was Ian Watts that built Bigger Brother.Pappa wrote:I won't bother posting my list of faves, they've mostly been covered. Instead I'll post something that most people won't have even heard of....
One show that really should be shit, but I loved watching was Mechannibals. It was on Dave or something, and like a cross between Scrapheap Challenge, Robot Wars and Cash in the Attic. The premise, two families that live nearby get given a task, they have to make a machine to perform this task using only items found in their house. They would rip apart their own washing machines, dryers, bikes, water tanks, kids' toys, etc. to make Heath Robinson contraptions. The most shocking part.... the losers get the booby prize, a toolbox to fix their destroyed house. The winners get new things to replace all the things they cannibalised.![]()

That's not really a surprise actually. I wish they'd make more of these shows but I think it was axed after the first series.leo-rcc wrote:Most of the contestants were roboteers by the way, and the technical advisor of that show was Ian Watts that built Bigger Brother.Pappa wrote:I won't bother posting my list of faves, they've mostly been covered. Re: Greatest British Television Shows
We don't get a lot of quality British shows broadcasted in South Africa, and our local TV stations mostly show American sitcoms.
That being said, I've got the season 1 - 3 of Cahterine Tate show... very funny
Other good ones I've seen: Absoluately Fabulous and Black Adder.

That reminds me of The Book Group .. it had a really good and promising start then went downhill into soapish suds.Animavore wrote:The first one is the good one. The second fell apart. I'm not sure why. It went from surreal comedy to yucky love mushrachelbean wrote:First and Second and a specialAnimavore wrote:Is it the first season of Green Wing?
Loved the first one (or two - it's been a while, so don't recall clearly) series of Teachers.

They did 2 seasons, but they were cancelled halfway in the second season.Pappa wrote:That's not really a surprise actually. I loves the one with the Grim Reaper boys. The were scrounging for steel supposedly everywhere they could find it when I happen to know the Robodome arena was in their backyard and is nothing but steel.

Re: Greatest British Television Shows
I was impressed with the unnecessary use of Heath Robinson solutions. Many of them could have done something quite simple, but they chose a funny/elaborate way of doing it instead.leo-rcc wrote:They did 2 seasons, but they were cancelled halfway in the second season.Pappa wrote:That's not really a surprise actually. Apart from the obvious Only Fools and Horses there was/is, in no particular order,
The Sweeney
Shine on Harvey Moon
Auf Weidersehen Pet
Dempsey and Makepeace
Clocking Off
Phoenix Nights
The Royal Family
Early Doors
Life on Mars
Dr Who (New stuff)
Sherlock (New one - bloody brilliant)
to name but a few. Not to mention,
Fingermouse
Bagpuss
and my personal fave Mr Benn.

Re: Greatest British Television Shows
I am enjoying the cameos on Green Wing. First Stephen Merchant and now Nick Frost, and on the first episode John Oliver was on for half a second

The best thing about Green Wing is Sue White, the HR person. She's adorable.rachelbean wrote:I am enjoying the cameos on Green Wing. First Stephen Merchant and now Nick Frost, and on the first episode John Oliver was on for half a second
