It's a movie. When I first read HHGttG I didn't know it was supposed to be funny.

I read the book years ago. I loved Good Omens, and Hitchhiker's Guide supposedly had the same appeal. But I didn't think it was funny. At all. Not at all.
I may have to give it another try.

It's a social commentary heavily laden with irony and black humor.

If you want a perfect copy of the book, no. If you want a bit of an acid trip...

Which is why I'll start by avoiding the theatrical cut and wait fro the complete extended version DVDs.

But if this movie's theatrical cut is on the level with what they did with LotR, I might lose my cool and in one fell swoop ensure my lifelong lodgings and the fact that the next two movies will get posthumous dedication to Mr Jackson and any number of crew members... especially if the script writer and effect folks who did the Moria cave troll are still on the Hobbit wagon.
