Stargate was pretty, but that's it. The woo was a little thick. They cut the intro scene (alien lands and makes slaves out of humans, if you haven't seen it) out of the theatrical release because, as one person put it, "Everybody knows that's what happened anyway."

I see it more as a re-imagining. It looks like it'll be interesting visually. Because I know a lot of films are crap these days and because of the industry I'm trying to get into (Visual Effects), I just see films for the effects if I suspect it might be crap otherwise. And with this low expectation, sometimes they end up being a decent film or at the very least entertained me for the time being.

Ringworld, for example, would be an insulin-shock of eye-candy if done right, but you'd never get all of that modest novel on screen.

The TRON movie is a sequel, not a remake. The remake I'm looking forward to is "Clash of the Titans." I always thought it was ripe for a remake. I'm just not digging Sam Worthington's "Jason Statham" look though -- very inauthentic for the period. Oh well. I hope Medusa rocks.
