Strange Days

Post by tattuchu » Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:52 pm

Just saw this movie called Strange Days. It was okay. Acting was so-so. I don't think the director knew what the fuck she was doing. Story was cool, though. It was written by James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator, etc). Anyway, none of that matters. The important thing is this: Juliette Lewis is in the movie and she's half naked in most of her scenes, and you get to see her tits a bunch of times, very clearly. Nice lingering shots. I liked her tits. They weren't too big. They were just right I thought.

Seriously, though, I hadn't expected the nudity. I just really like Juliette and wanted to check out some of the films she's been in. I first took notice of her in Tarantino's From Dusk 'Til Dawn. Apparently she's also in What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, although I don't remember her in that. She's also a singer, and not a bad one. She played a rock singer in Strange Days and sang her own songs. And she formed a band a few years back that was well received. She just came out with a solo album. I don't know anything about it except for one song I heard once on the radio. I liked the song. I was very surprised. Thought it'd be some tiresome self-indulgent shite. But it was actually quite good.
The only bad thing about Juliette is that she's a Scientologist

I was struck by her in "From Dusk 'til Dawn". But being on the same set with Selma must be intimidating for an ingenue. :hehe:

You too? Yeah, I watched her in that film and I was like, "Holy shit, who the fuck is this actress?" Selma is beautiful, no two ways about it, but Juliette...she just has a certain something that makes her special. At least I think so.

She's in Natural born killers as well... the only film I've been to where people were walking out in disgust half way through

Yeah, I've never seen it. There's a new edition coming out very shortly, if it hasn't been released already, and I'm gonna pick it up. It never appealed to me before, but I found out three things about it:
1) It's directed by Oliver Stone. I'm not an Oliver Stone fan or anything, but he does have the reputation of being a serious director. So I figured maybe it wouldn't just be gratuitous violence like I thought.
2) The screenplay was written by Tarantino. I like Tarantino's stuff.
3) Juliette Lewis is in it, and I like her.

Thing is, the screenplay was extensively rewritten by Stone. If Stone has taken away Tarantino's humor, it might end up being gratuitous after all. Or Stone may be trying to make some kind of grand statement with the excessive violence, and it may come off as heavy-handed as a result. Dunno.
Why were people walking out on it?
What did you think of it?

Yes, big disappointment, eh? But, admittedly she is GREAT in most of the movies she's been in.
