Greetings and all that stuff...

Post by Latimeria » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:12 am

Hi, I'm Latimeria and I'm an alcoho.... oops, wrong place

Atheist, rationalist, and life sciences educator in the USA*.

I wrote a bit longer of an introduction, but it all seems to have disappeared forever when I clicked "Preview"...

In any case, those of you who frequent RatSkep might know me, and perhaps also if you hung out at RDF in "The Before Time"... "The Long, Long Ago". I'm not among the most prolific of posters, but I do like to stick with a thread for a while, often (but certainly not limited to) those that offer the opportunity to introduce a fundie to reality and try to get the two to shake hands. Anyway, looking to expand my usual browsing territory and this place seems an obvious choice.

I recognize about half the names online right now, and about half are totally new to me. Look forward to meeting those of you that I don't already know! Cheers :cheers2:

So what part of the forum is having the most fun right now???

*Disclaimer: The state of science education in America is not my fault.

Welcome! You've arrived in the Dwindle Zone, when the Brits are trying to find their way back from the pub and the Merkins are watching Top Gear.

Some Americans have just finished walking home from uni.
Welcome!!!
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

I've come to realize that... unfortunately that is usually the only convenient time for me during the week.

Welcome to Ratz, Latimeria. We don't get many fundies here but we do have cheese and beer.

Quite alright. Mostly I just enjoy the company of people who can think clearly and are interested in good discussions. I'm a whore for learning new things.

When there is a serious drought of fundies, I've been known to visit their territory to get my fix. I just don't like their forum rules, which sometimes explicitly state that The Bible is considered evidence that can be cited in debate as an authority (but only certain translations)... and they don't tend to like my fucking filthy ass mouth :dunno: Go figure!

As mother nature has seen it fit to dump snow and ice all across America, I don't have to work tomorrow and have just popped open a bottle of my favorite Belgian suds. I would be willing to share if I may partake of your cheese

It's good that you difference between atheist and rationalist...

I am not familiar with the american school program. What is a life science educator and in what does it differ from a biology teacher?

The "Life Sciences" is a certification for the teaching of introductory biology, but also more specific biology courses such as Zoology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, etc. Any science related to the study of living things, really. Sometimes, as in Environmental Science, there is a cross-over with the abiotic side of things...
