Yet you prayed without asking if it would be okay, on the assumption that you can do any damn religious thing you want and people would have no reason to object. "Bailiff, take her out back and kill her. A lot.""I simply wanted to encourage them to be open to prayer but if they did not want to then I would never force it down their throat."

Another religious type wakes up to the 21st century. Serves her right, the silly bitch.

It's just a stupid prayer.
Let her do it and then scream MEH.
At this rate people will get fired for farting.

"All Olive wants to do is help, she sometimes cries over those children and calls me to pray with her over the phone for them."
Well it hasn't done much good, now has it? So perhaps she's not praying hard enough.
"Olive Jones, 54, from Weston-super-Mare, said the girl had been too poorly for a lesson. The teacher then decided to speak about her belief in miracles."
So let's see your god perform a miracle. Then we'll talk. Well? What's He waiting for?
"She said she had been called to her manager's office and told that sharing her faith with a child could be deemed to be bullying.
Mrs Jones added: 'I was in complete shock, I was trembling.' "
Now you know how we feel. Except when we're presented with stupid twattery such as you exhibit, we're trembling with anger and revulsion.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

True enough. Let her pray. And then tell her, "NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED!"Devogue wrote:It's just a stupid prayer.

I think this is a good sign! Religious people still see their position as a 'default' one and that it is 'harmless' or at worst a a sort of neutral position. The woman seems genuinely shocked. Good.

She's a maths teacher. She has precisely zero business straying off course into religion or (say) politics. If the shoe was on the other foot, she'd be amongst the first to complain.Devogue wrote:It's just a stupid prayer.

The stupid cow (and millions like her) just can't see that getting a sick child's hopes up about a miracle cure is fucking sick.
If a muslim teacher started telling her children about the qu'ran she'd be the first to cry foul!

I sell wine for a living, but I have had great conversations with customers about politics, religion, literature, music, what I am having for dinner, what my kids are up to at school and other small talk.klr wrote:She's a maths teacher. I still sell the wine and I get to know and like my customers - Jesus, in many cases it's ten minutes talking shite about the football and 5 seconds recommending a wine - should I be fired?
This woman can still teach maths for an hour or two - 20 seconds of "I'll say a prayer for you" because she genuinely believes it will help (even if she is deluded) is not the end of the world - it's certainly not "bullying", it's more a one-sided act of kindness. The child's mother is a piece of shit for going to the trouble of reporting her, and the authorities are dickheads for firing her.
Of course, all this is on the basis that the full truth is being told - I suspect there is more to this than is being revealed...

First of all, you work for yourself, so being fired might be a bit tricky. That's an important point: You are accountable first and foremost to yourself and any business partners. If customers don't like the way you do small talk and not so small talk, then they'll probably vote with their feet.Devogue wrote:I sell wine for a living, but I have had great conversations with customers about politics, religion, literature, music, what I am having for dinner, what my kids are up to at school and other small talk.klr wrote:She's a maths teacher. Secondly, in your scenario it's all consenting adults.
She hasn't been fired - yet. She's been suspended. And the parent has every right to assert how she thinks her child should be brought up ... and if she doesn't, then why should any religious-minded parent?Devogue wrote: This woman can still teach maths for an hour or two - 20 seconds of "I'll say a prayer for you" because she genuinely believes it will help (even if she is deluded) is not the end of the world - it's certainly not "bullying", it's more a one-sided act of kindness. Re: How hard is it to just pray on your own fucking time?
Okay then - my sales assistants - any sales assistant - what about the till worker at Tesco who chats about, say, a baby to a woman and gives advice like an old wives tale - it's half chat, half well-meaning and it's all done with a smile on the face - should she be fired? Who is hurt? If the woman complained to customer services about a bit of harmless banter could that be seen as disproportionate? I think so. Is it really worth someone getting their knickers in a twist about a little bit of social interaction?klr wrote:First of all, you work for yourself, so being fired might be a bit tricky. Agreed, but it's not as if the child is being prepared for first holy communion or force fed scripture for 15 years like I was - it's like being handed the Watch Tower by JWs - say thanks, take it and bin it - no harm done, no conflict. There has been no perspective shown in this case.

Weren't you the one who caused a minor ruckus in a store when you took exception to a comment made by a priest?Devogue wrote:Okay then - my sales assistants - any sales assistant - what about the till worker at Tesco who chats about, say, a baby to a woman and gives advice like an old wives tale - it's half chat, half well-meaning and it's all done with a smile on the face - should she be fired? a) He was being genuinely nasty, addressing a complete stranger with a completely unnecessary comment.klr wrote:Weren't you the one who caused a minor ruckus in a store when you took exception to a comment made by a priest?Devogue wrote:Okay then - my sales assistants - any sales assistant - what about the till worker at Tesco who chats about, say, a baby to a woman and gives advice like an old wives tale - it's half chat, half well-meaning and it's all done with a smile on the face - should she be fired? b) He was doing it for effect in front of his parishioners.
c) There was no need for him to interact with me at all. I was a customer in a shop and so was he.
