I have all their albums, know all of their songs (even the really obscure stuff) and I have loads of DVDs and memorabilia.
Although there are millions of people who absolutely detest Queen I just cannot understand how they perceive them so differently from me. Perhaps you are one of them. Sometimes, if I'm honest, I would like to sit them down in a room for an hour or two and fucking well explain to them why they are so god damn fucking stupid for disliking Queen - how can they not appreciate the raw power of Stone Cold Crazy or It's Late? Why can't they understand the scorching beauty of Leaving Home Ain't Easy and Long Away?
I know what it is. They haven't even heard those songs, and yet they make a value judgement and dismiss Queen on the basis of We Will Rock You or some other monster hit which even drives me nuts. I swear I could show them, if they would just stop being so goddamn fucking evasive and sit down and LISTEN CAREFULLY to me for a while. Very soon they would learn what proper taste is.
Even more frustrating is the fact that some people absolutely love Neil Young - I know his music is a load of shit yet people still insist on liking it and claiming he is a genius and he has far more credibility than Queen, even though Joe Public would be hard pressed to name four of his songs. What the fuck is wrong with people? Why can they not just understand that I am fucking right, and so are the millions of Queen fans around the world who agree with me...?
Of course, even though I think these thoughts now and again (like we all do about our favourite things at times) I know better than to spout them out in all seriousness because, crucially, I understand that they are irrational, selfish, insular, closed-minded and foolish. I am totally aware of that understanding and on that basis I am able to live and let live and get on with my life while people around the world quite happily (if stupidly  ) listen to Neil Young's music. It's not that important to me.
So why can't certain religious heads just wise up and mind their own business and stop evangelising, harrassing or even killing apostates and generally trying to get their own way with stuff other people just don't want to know about? What part of the psychology of religion is it that pushes these "brands" over the line in to something irrational, selfish, insular, closed-minded and foolish (I'm talking about evangelising in particular here, not the belief itself).
Imagine if I taught my daughter that Queen was the best band, the only band she could listen to, and I sent her off once a week to hear more about Queen from an especially vehement fan.
