Re: Scientific Proof Of God
While we can rightly put down people who spout theories of gods, without proper evidence, the fact remains that there is stuff out there, not only that we don't yet understand, but that we probably can never understand.
Which is the reason we dreamed up gods in the first place.
The question of infinity keeps rearing it's head, and nobody has got any closer to it.
That's because if you get a billion light years closer to infinity, you aren't any closer to it.
And the question of why there is something, and not nothing. Which has infinity running all through it.
So there isn't a scientific proof of god. But there's also nothing anywhere near a disproof either.
It's down to the gaps. We can rightly laugh at the god of the gaps, and keep filling in the gaps in our knowledge. But the gaps are infinite, so good luck with that.

Re: Scientific Proof Of God
You dont get it do you? We dont make any claims that god does not exist. We dont have to disprove anything. They make the claims they must provide the evidence. It is nothing about gaps. Another fallacy you have fallen for?
Our existence in this universe is of no consequence. Some people find that impossible to accept. We are gnat's piss. No better than bacteria.

Atheists have a non-belief in the existence of God, a god or gods. Theists believe that these ethereal beings exist. the onus is upon the theists to produce peer-reviewed evidence that these beings exist.
If that can be done then the atheist will lose their non-belief and the theist will no longer need a belief; in both cases to be replaced by evidential knowledge.

I have NO BELIEF in the existence of a God or gods. I do not have to offer proof nor do I have to determine absence of proof because I do not ASSERT that a God does or does not or gods do or do not exist.

Oh I know Alan. I am also fed up. Usually the tactic is to enter the theological/philosophical world of what if. Which in my mind has wasted many a gig of memory space.Alan B wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 12:17 pmI forget how many times I've pointed this out, here, on Ratskep & RDF.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 9:22 amYou dont get it do you? Not to mention that hell itself is solidly hypothetical.Rum wrote:As long as you remember you are going to hell for not believing something for which there is no evidence!

Or merely hypothetically hypothetical?

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: Scientific Proof Of God
Hell & Heaven? I take a rather mystic view.
These two terms have been brought about by the complete misunderstanding of the 'original teachings' by those who wanted control and power over others: the priests and founders of religions.
By 'original teachings' I mean the unadulterated words of Buddha, Jesus, Krishna and others who perhaps have now been lost to history. As far as I'm concerned they seemed to have taught that there is a meditative mind-state that is 'heaven' and that to not live with this mind-state, that is, a 'normal' life, is 'hell'.
The use of these two terms has been twisted by religions to instil fear in the gullible and credulous with no other purpose except control and repression - quite the opposite of what Buddha, Jesus, Krishna and others seem to have actually taught. (Which upon examination appear to be similar in content if one takes into account their different cultures, teaching methods and language).
