As for the Marx quote you misquoted:

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people."
I have never quoted Marx in this thread.

It was me - I had the the temerity to paraphrase Marx as "Religion is the opium of the people."

Well, "Religion is the opium of the people." is close enough to "It is the opium of the people." anyway, for "It" manifestly stands for "Religion". By pointing out a distinction without a difference Dennis Markuze tries to make himself appear erudite, but only succeeds in revealing that he possesses a pedantic streak.

I have been known to pull you up on a number of occasions when you misquote the culture - Luger thing, but at least I was never serious about it. Dennis has yet to indicate that he has a trace of humour.

If you make a statement that to an impartial observer is clearly wrong, but that you whole-heartedly believe is correct, is that lying?
