God on the Job: Church Attendance Is Not Enough to Affect Job Satisfaction and Commitment, Baylor Study Shows

WACO, Texas (June 20, 2014) — A congregation’s beliefs about work attitudes and practices affect a churchgoer on the job — but how much depends in part on how involved that person is in the congregation, not merely on occasoinal attendance, according to a study by Baylor University sociologists funded by the National Science Foundation.

“We already knew that about 60 percent of American adults are affiliated with congregations, but we wanted to delve into whether that carries over from weekend worship services to the work day,” said Jerry Z. Park, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology in Baylor’s College of Arts & Sciences. “It turns out it does make some difference in their attitudes at work. That means it has a potential ‘payoff’ not only for employers, but for employees themselves.”

Researchers asked a random sample of full-time employees if they attended a place of worship, and if so, they were then asked whether their congregation emphasized integrating their faith in the workplace through “sacrificial love” to their co-workers, sensing God’s presence at work among others. What seemed to make the difference, researchers found, was frequent attendance at a church that stressed a merge of faith and work. Simply being at such a congregation – or just attending any church – did not result in greater work satisfaction or dedication.

Once you get them out of the skull you have to be very careful with them, they're quite soft and gelatinous. Use only lukewarm water and a mild dish soap, and don't scrub. Never use bleach or ammonia based cleaners. It helps to soak them in a weak vinegar solution for a half hour to firm up the membranes. Getting them back into the skull and hooked up can be quite challenging; it's a job best left to trained professionals.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Well, I'm glad to hear it for your sake. It would be pretty bloody miserable if you were religious, but hated going to fucking church...

The idea of enjoying church is alien to me. Even when I believed I thought it was bullshit (Man-made religions are a corruption of God's word. God is not found in a book or building. Yes, I was one of those). I used to cry and scream as a child, begging not to go.

And I wasn't even one of the molested children!

The only church service I've ever been to was a midnight service on Christmas, because they had an excellent choir that my Dad was singing in. Unless a couple of weddings and one baptism can be considered church services. I can state with some authority that I will never set foot in another one.

Me too. And funerals. I just go to the after party or wake.
I was at my aunt's funeral last year and the priest said a couple of lines about her and then started making it all about Jesus, his promise of salvation and the Kingdom of God. I would've been pissed off if I wasn't laughing my ass off. I nearly choked when he held a wafer above his head and proclaimed, "Behold! The glory of God!" Such drama over a bit of bread.

I was miserable at church, and so were all the other kids. Who the fuck enjoys that shit? One day in Sunday school class I'd finally had enough and said out loud that I didn't believe any of this silly ridiculous stuff. I put my foot down at home and refused to go any longer. My parents, particularly my asshole step-father, were furious, threatening to cut off Christmas presents if I didn't believe in Jesus. Anyway, before I did actually quit going, a lot of the other kids came up to me and said how brave I was and confided in me that they were atheists as well (but too afraid to say so) and that they hated church too. I didn't feel brave. I was just stating the obvious. But the point is, it seemed to me that none of us kids actually liked church. We tolerated it because we had to, but we hated every minute of it. And the few kids who didn't hate it were obviously gay.

That was Methodist church. When I was very young I went to Catholic church, which was ten times more retarded. Never got molested there, though. If I had, maybe I woulda liked church more :dunno:
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I think the main bulk of the brain-washing comes from without the church; over-zealous parents passing on their fears to their children, for example.

The thing that happens in church itself, is an affirmation that all the stuff you've heard is true and unless you become a slave to the whim and fancy of the unseen Judge you will burn in hell forever.

I once held a fairly indifferent view to religion and their followers, but I have become increasingly aware of how manipulative and subjugating it really is.
