He's pretty smooth. He put it well, the bit about agnosticism and atheism etc.
He's obviously the veteran of many an agressive interview. Not surprising, where he comes from.
I've got no need for a church substitute, but I can imagine people living there having that need.
America seems to be changing pretty fast, when it comes to "coming out".

Meh! I wish they'd go "back in". Bloody Americans make a big deal out of everything.
