Such a thing as atheist blasphemy?

Post by Drewish » Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:46 pm

Is there a particular symbol that you ascribe notions of "the sacred" to (outside of national symbols, let's not get into that)? Do we as atheists (well the most of us who are) have a sense of the sacred, and therefore of blasphemy?

Bashing Catholics is a sacrament for Atheists. Therefore, voicing any support whatever for Catholicism, or even merely refusing to disparage and demean a billion Catholics for the wrongdoing of a few would certainly qualify as blasphemy/heresy for Atheists.

At least in this forum and RatSkep.

Calling Dawkins a hateful, spiteful religion-basher masquerading as an intellectual would likely qualify.

Nope, it would be filed under "tired", "hackneyed" and "broken record".

So, you think Dawkins is a hateful, spiteful religion-basher masquerading as an intellectual too, but that it's not "atheist blasphemy?" Interesting.

No. I just don't think it's 'blasphemy' to say it.

No, he just called what you said bullshit, nothing more. You can't pick the meaning out of that to suit your own arguments.

Glad you added that last sentence there. I don't bash all Catholics. I'd have to bash a few people in my family to do so.
