e-petition: close the UK's embassy in the Vatican

Following Ireland's closure of it's embassy in the Vatican it seems to me time to review our links with this small state. Do we need an embassy here? There is an embassy for Italy in Rome more or less a short walk from the Vatican. Let's save the money.

The e-petition legislation is a bit of a con. Reaching the threshold of 100,000 signatures does not automatically mean it will go to the Commons for a vote or even a debate. All it means is that it will go to the person who manages the business of the House of Commons for consideration to be added to the list of debates.

I don't know if it a deliberate sleight of hand or simply that the public is too quite to jump to conclusions and assumptions.

Happy to add my name however in this case!

They remove all petitions they deem inappropriate or offensive too, like my perfectly reasonable "arrest the pope" one (and who knows how many others like it). I'm waiting on a Freedom of Information request to find out exactly how many they've blocked.

Yep, that's probably why the guy phrased the petition just in economic terms, without mentioning the religious aspects.

No point in an old Aussie bastard adding his name, but go pommies go!

And my gin!
