What is islamophobia?

Well, we've established it exists. But what is it? I've done a trawl of dictionary definitions as atheists tend to be very exacting about these things. The choices offered above are no doubt imperfect and I am sure there are thousands of variations to suit individual tastes, but given that these are the choices on offer I'd be interested in which one people would plump for.

Personally I think I'd avoid the 'irrational' bit. That just gives people a get-out to claim their negativity towards muslims is rational, therefore they can't be islamophobic. Besides which, emotions and prejudice are irrational concepts anyway. I'll go for Option 3 I think.

Muslims ae originally semites. The various offshoots are not really 'muslim' but use the religion like some do 'christianity' as a motif and talisman - keeping their own odd beliefs despite them being contrary to islam...

I'm never sure if I'm treating religious Muslims the same as I do Christians because the bullshit they spout is different than the bullshit that I'm accustomed to, so it stands out more and the alarming parts are that much more alarming.

But then, I'm about as concerned about it as I am that fleet footed thieves might not go to jail as often as their slower counterparts.

All the Muslims I've personally known were not horribly concerned about their religion so those issues rarely ever came up.

Yep - I have to admit that Gawd won that one. Crumple could have remarked that islam was founded by Semites (ie. Arabs) but to say that "muslims are Semites" in today's world is plain wrong.
