Just wondered how many are out there? I've nothing to say about motive except for brute curiousity. Wouldn't know where to start looking something like that up whilst some are well read here and might know how to find out? Anti-semitism really isn't a issue at all in the UK...whilst America is probably different with so many more of the chosen people, and a religious right obsessed with the promised land, the end of all things etc?

Not sure. I never even knew what the hell a Jew was when I was little, except that Hitler didn't like them. Never knew why Hitler didn't like them. That bit was never explained in class.
I don't think I've ever met an anti-Semite. I mean, it's not something to really give a shit about, either liking or disliking Jews. Although Jews do have a reputation for being miserly and so forth. So you might hear someone say, "Don't be such a Jew." But it's more a figure of speech than anything else.
Where I used to live, several apartments ago, there seemed to be some anti-Jewish sentiment amongst the high school kids. I found this out through my nephew, who was always saying Jew this and Jew that. I asked him what that was all about, and he didn't really know. It's just what kids said. I asked him if he even knew what a Jew was, and of course he didn't. The best part? He'd call somebody a "fucking Jew" in one breath, and then call them a "schmuck" in the next

Seriously, though, as tattuchu hints, it's hidden but still there. It's not nearly as prevalent as prejudice against Middle Easterners; about the same as against blacks or Hispanics. Unlike other racism, though, you'll find more antisemitism in the North than the South. The most obvious ones are the militias up in Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

When I was a kid, there were names for all the minorities, and jokes and racist epithets were fairly common, because they were "bad," disapproved of by adults. We didn't really understand racism, and when we got old enough to, the Italian jokes and so forth stopped, because they were about people who were your friends, and they didn't like them any more. People used "gypped" more often than "Jewed" to signify buying something that made you feel ripped off, though, and I never heard a Jewish joke until I was much older, nearly an adult. By that time I was pretty uptight about the whole thing and knew better than to laugh. Kinda surprised the guy who told it, he got a pretty cold reception; it wasn't just me.

I remember watching the movie Porky's a very long time ago. Yes, not something to be proud of. But a subplot in the film concerned some anti-Semitic bullying. One character called the other a kike. I was completely mystified. Not just because I'd never heard the word kike before, but because I'd never heard of anybody having anything against Jews before (except for Hitler, but that was another mystery).
