Behe & Dembski - Winning (plus the Scouts)

Post by cowiz » Sat Jun 11, 2011 8:21 pm

In the West Chester County Bookstore the following has been achieved:

Behe: "The Edge of Evolution" - moved from Human Evolution section to Christianity
Dembski: "The Design Inference" - ditto

And because I was in a belligerent mood today and the Boy Scouts of America were outside the grocery store collecting donations:

Boy Scout: Would you like to donate to the scouts?
Me: Sure, would love to, my nephew is thinking of joining
Scout: That's great, he'll love it
Me: He's an atheist though, will that matter?
Scout: A what?
Me: He does not have a belief in a god, will that matter?
Scout: Er, I don't think so!
Me: Great, also, he's a homosexual
Scout: (Long pause) Why are you asking me these things?
Me: Is your scout leader here?
Scout: Sure, do you want to talk to him?
Me: Yes please!
<Gets scout leader - they have a discussion and the leader comes over to me>
Leader: Can I help you sir?
Me: Yes please, I was thinking of donating, but first, can my atheist, cross dressing, homosexual, nephew join your group?
Leader: Sir, are you trying to be awkward?
Me: No, I'd just like to know, and I forgot to mention, he's also a communist, will that be a problem?
Leader: Please, we are busy today, I don't have time for this.
Me: What's your answer?
Leader: You know the answer, that's why you're being difficult!
Me: How am I being difficult?
Leader: You know what you're doing, but thanks for stopping by!
<He turns away and starts to walk off>
Me: I'll take that as a yes then shall I?

Fuck that was fun! Don't mess with pawiz today!

It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

"You know the answer, that's why you're being difficult"-- How hard could it have been for him to give you a yes or no answer?
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs in different degrees of certainty about different things, but I'm not absolutely sure of anything, and of many things I don't know anything about, but I don't have to know an answer I don't feel frightened by not knowing things, by being lost in the mysterious universe without having any purpose which is the way it really is as far as I can tell possibly. It doesn't frighten me.

Nice going  however, having the background of once being a member of a scout troup where atheists probably where in majority, I have always had some problems with religion based scout bashing. However, I have to admit that I got really surprised, when one of my old mates left his journalistic career, and became a priest. Sometimes they hide in really shallow waters, don't they .

It sounds like you were a bit of a nob, to be honest. Are you constipated today?

I almost remember the Philmont Grace that you say out to the great Spirit. But I refused to be trained, that way they could not interrogate me. Only my kid.

My sons are in scouts and cub scouts. They love it. It's not a bit religiously based, where they go. They just make a lot of fires, burn shit, run around and mess with knives. I LOVE scouts!!! Well, the organisation, not the scouts... well, my two, but not the others... etc.

Boy Scouts of America prohibits membership if you are gay or an atheist Stripes - that's why I did it.

That's true, though (speaking for the atheist part) it's not often lived out in practice - even though they do make references to god  and you can get badges in faith-based shite

But - my ex was a scoutmaster and he's an atheist... though not of the sort to ever tell anyone. :ask:

You didn't realise this? It's been terribly controversial, that they're basically immune to any sort of legislated equality measures because they're a private organisation. It's shameful. I had terrible qualms about my son joining for that very reason.
