Is American Atheism Evolving Towards A Cult?

Post by Atheist-Lite » Mon May 23, 2011 8:25 pm

Just considering how, especially in the US, a interest in atheism serves to seperate you from the mainstream community. Now that atheism is more visible and atheists are forming a semi-coherent clique outside the mainstream are they trending towards cult status? Not everywhere but in those states with a strong religious tradition there is surely a tendancy towards joining a defensive circle of like minded people if you are a atheist?

There's a lot of denial here. Typical of cultists to say their not cultists.

American Atheism doesn't evolve. It was created.
