Martin J. Rees who is he? Anyone got any dirt on him? His eyes are a little close together, always a bad sign.

I've seen him before, probably while he was president of the Royal Society, but I don't remember the context.

He's also the Astronomer Royal and delivered the prestigious Reath Lecture last year. The Templeton Foundation don't want to give their award to too many wackos so they do hand it out to proper scientists every now and again. The thing is, any kudos they gain by this is simply robbed straight off the award winner, who then gets a bad rep for being a Templeton darling. The panel probably like him for his science-based doom-mongery which fits nicely with their 'let's take religion seriously' ethic.

What right thinking internet rationalist doesn't wholly endorse the factual basis of the propaganda employed by our true Lizard Overlords to prepare our species for the arrival of their resource-stripping hulk ships in 2012?
