It is fucking horrible and anti-human.
Soz - been on my mind today.

Just showing my atheist credentials...

I didn't say I hated the worshippers, just the religion.Gonzo wrote:People do have the right to worship, you know, hating them for it doesn't do whole lot of good - just perpetuates misunderstanding and resentments between cultures. A secular democracy thrives on equality and acceptance - despite one's beliefs.
I am an atheist but I do not detest religion rather than judgementalism. Hate the sin and not the sinner, as the Christians say. If anything, the world would be a much better place if Christians could do away with their hypocrisy and follow the ideas of their so-called savior.
Your ignorance of Christianity is...well, pretty typical of atheists. You create asinine, deliberately mendacious straw man descriptions of Christian belief and then knock them down in self-righteous smugness, but your arguments are juvenile, ill informed, ignorant and bigoted.Rum wrote:I have decided that I actively hate this religion. I hate all religions of course, with perhaps the grudging exception of Buddhism, but Christianity has that thing in common with Islam, that you are either for us or against us, you either believe us and are saved or don't and you are damned. The evil that has been done in its name is appalling and beyond description. The perfectly natural human impulses one has to reject to be a Christian is a disgrace.
This is the epitome of the "Wayback Machine Fallacy."Rum wrote:Good examples. Another: Alexandria in the fourth century. The height and pinnacle of Greek and Egyptian proto-science all stored in a wonderful library. They were on the verge of working out that the earth rotated around the sun FFS. Along come the early Xians and take over the city - a 'political' act if ever there was one, drive out the Jews and burn the library.
It took 1500 years to discover (again) that the world goes around the sun. And the church fought it tooth and nail even then!
Well thank you. Emotional reactions such as this only add to the weight of my argument.Seth wrote:Your ignorance of Christianity is...well, pretty typical of atheists. Well, you're welcome. That's the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black. Evidently the cognitive disconnect and ignorance you suffer from disallows you from seeing the rank hypocrisy in your rebuttal.Rum wrote:Well thank you. Why thank you. I do like to try to be consistent.Your consistent attitude of superiority and condescension is in evidence yet again here.
Yeah, right. Wouldn't know it from the ignorant strawmen you post. And if you're no longer a Christian, you must be an atheist. Or perhaps you're just a bigot.I used to be a Christian - a rather radical 'born again' one in fact and I know the New Testament really very well - so much for my 'ignorance'.
You first. As to the rest of your post, please provide evidence rather than just throwing accusations around the place.
You're still not aware. You're operating in ignorance because I have not espoused any religious views yet, I've merely pointed out your straw man arguments.I wasn't aware until now that your religious views were actually quite as ridiculous as your political ones.
You have no idea just how badly you failed.....my failing.
Lol. Seth, you are funny. If only you were not serious. Rum, my advice is ignore Seth. I would sooner talk to a door then respond to Seth, Rum. He often takes positions he doesn't hold and resorts quite so often to Reductio ad absurdum. I would almost posit that his mere presence on internet forums is to cause strife.Seth wrote:Your ignorance of Christianity is...well, pretty typical of atheists. Debate...to cause debate. It's only strife if you're so small-minded that you are unable to tolerate diversity of opinion and argue your case without taking it too seriously. You parrot the complaints of the Ratskep intolerants who drive anyone who doesn't subscribe to the conventional wisdom out with cries of "Burn the Witch!"Rob wrote:Lol. Seth, you are funny.
