More willfully blind than stupid. They can be delusional, if they really believe that stuff. However, most people don't even think about it, they just mouth the words when somebody asks them.

Having been there not all that long ago, I'd not like to think of myself as "stupid", but perhaps more as someone who didn't actually think much about it. And when I did, I changed my mind.

i would like to answer yes to this question, but that wouldnt be right. there are plenty of theists who are by most people's standards very intelligent. I think most are just the victim of indoctrination.

Atheists today tend to be smarter, IMHO, because most of us arrive at atheism through some serious philosophical thought and reading that the average person does not do. If people just were atheists because they didn't have it indoctrinated into them as children, they'd be just as stupid as the general population, since they would be the general population.

The median IQ is 100. That ought to tell you something. Half of everybody is stupider than that.
