Was it all a waste?

I imagine it trained a generation of stone masons of some sort, and developed construction techniques that were applied elsewhere in Egypt... Maybe...

It was only partly woo. To an extent, it was yet another grandiose gesture by a human ruler, wanting to be remembered by the future. Egotistical, and with trappings of woo, but a very human motive...

It gave later cilvilisations a sense of awe at the accomplishments of men. Pagans, at that...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?

I suppose it all falls to dust in the end anyway so it does not matter. but it strikes me that humans seem to need something to motivate them for grander and/or better things, irrespective of the point of them or the driving force. We seem to have a creative, restless energy, often focused on the stupidest most pointless things.

Quite so. At least we recognise the futility and revel in it.

Think of the Bower Bird...

Think of Potlach ceremonies...

We will always be creatures, with our genetic heritage carved deep...

For the rest, there is always gin...
