It was only partly woo. To an extent, it was yet another grandiose gesture by a human ruler, wanting to be remembered by the future. Egotistical, and with trappings of woo, but a very human motive...

I suppose it all falls to dust in the end anyway so it does not matter. but it strikes me that humans seem to need something to motivate them for grander and/or better things, irrespective of the point of them or the driving force. We seem to have a creative, restless energy, often focused on the stupidest most pointless things.
