I found this comment interesting. I think, that to a believer, God IS our innate social inclination. Agency is how the brain works. So yes, take away the source and we would rape, murder, and lie. There's nothing odd about that way of looking at things at all. It's like saying if there was no rain god there would be no rain. Of course. The rain god is the agent that makes the rain.

I had one guy tell me that nothing in this world he'd done mattered because he'd taken Jesus into his heart. He said he'd planned on do that IF he got caught.

I hope the story about Behe's son is true -- it certainly makes the stuff but his father talks look even more rubbish than it really is if you can't convince his own son!

anyone who talks like this should be asked how it is that Christians are at least as good at sinning as any other people in the world-- I mean, if their leaders seem to get up to some dreadful stuff. If it were really true that it is thought that provides morals then we would expect that Christians would be much less likely to sin in terms of adultery, homosexuality, and paedophilia. Yet what we find is that even the great and good of church leaders are doing these things! How can we take any claims or morality questions seriously at all?

It's a standing joke that the most homophobic ranters are likely to turn up in the news some day getting their luggage lifted. As it turns out, though, some of them face a fate that's even sadder.

Remember Jonathan Katz, the physicist who briefly held an advisory position with the Obama administration until his online essay declaring that he was proud to be a homophobe made the news? He raved about how homosexuality was simply disgusting and people with "unnatural desires" need to learn to repress them, for their own good and to prevent disease from spreading through the population.

Surprise, Jonathan Katz has not been exposed as a practicing homosexual. Instead, his son Isaac has come out publicly as a homosexual.

The elder Katz is going to have to learn something now, which is a good thing.
