Ok, so here goes: I fucking hate fucking religion. No fucking tolerance for crap.

However, my nephew (very nice guy, drinks and smokes heavily, obesely overweight, superb sense of humor, is a a christian. (We've often crossed swords on the subject of religion on facebook), an old friend from school (we became born again christians at approximately the same time, years ago, but he went on to study theology and is currently a parson in the Dutch Reformed Church) [and I understand and respect their faith in god, it was once of considerable value to me as well], the reverend Spong and archbishop Desmond Tutu are the exceptions to my rule.

I once suggested a "holy" war against religion on RatSkep and the only reply I got was that "I hope it's a war of words"

To quote the TV character Gregory House MD "If you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people"

From my experience (having been a christian a long time ago) words won't get you anywhere, unless it's confrontational, offensive and rude. Should we become even more agressive? I think so, but don't now how, short from becoming military extremists ourselves.

Well just keep speaking out ,there is no need for everyone to take up arms (oh and of course I mean figuratively ) and push an atheist agenda (what ever that is ) but just quietly telling people when the subject comes up that you don't believe in fairy stories goes a long way . Make comments on the internet ,write letters to the press when the religious get up to their normal tricks etc.It is working,Hell we got the Pope ranting about us Atheists so, we are having an effect .
Americans have an advantage in that they have a secular constitution to uphold against the attacks of rabid christians . I don't know how things are in your country but in the UK most people are non-believers and many have only the vaguest idea of a deity .Atheists are individuals ,how ant-theist you are and how much effort and or risk you want to take is up to you

but I agree with you that (some) Atheists being far more proactive would be a good thing. Pointing out that the Emperor has no clothes always works well. unless it's you sitting butt naked............in Rome.
