Peter Tatchell - The Pope

Post by Rum » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:14 pm

I have just finished watching a super 'documentary' by Peter Tatchell on channel 4 about his view of the pope. The word 'documentary' is in quoted because is was really very far from being impartial indeed! Of course that doesn't bother me, but basically Peter ( a gay rights and human rights activist here in the UK) tore the pope's attitudes on birth control, aids, stem cell medicine and a range of other issues totally to shreds and showed them up to be the superstitious shit they are.

I admire Tatchell's restraint. Some of the utter bunk Catholics were coming out with almost had me screaming at the TV. Tatchell just responded coolly and sensibly and made his point.

OOOH - better than a link to the prog - here's one to a story about a bishop objecting to the prog! LOL!

My summer course supervisor was making sarcastic comments about Tatchell on his facebook. Something about the program not knowing anything about Catholicism, being ignorant and biased, etc.
Is there for honest poverty
That hangs his heid and a' that
The coward slave, we pass him by
We dare be puir for a' that.

I was surprised he didn't go into more detail about the absurdity of the church holding it's own secret courts. Imagine if my local chess club did that after the club treasurer had raped some young members.

I'd guess his defence would be, having touch em, he had to complete the move.

On another pope, note. The BBC web news says that thousands attending the open air mass, so 60 milllion+ didnt bother. I gues Britons voted with its feet on the papal visit.

The BBC also reported the Pope "Pope warns young to resist temptations". Would that be the temptation to take a pick axe handle to their abuser

It was interesting the way they advertised the programme too. As I said here: http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 98#p594498,
There was a documentary on TV this week on Channel 4 called "The Trouble With The Pope". On TV listings it was referred to as "The Pope". What's that about, then? It's not because it's too long a title either, as they managed "F1: The Hungarian Grand Prix" recently - or wherever the fuck it was. Not trying to cause offence, perhaps. He's an offensive fucker anyway.

I think we have to take it seriously when one of the Popes cronies says us UK atheists are a bunch of nazis. After all if anyone can recognise a nazi, its someone who was once in the hitler youth. :ab:
