Our irrational vicious onslaught and utter loathing...

Post by beige » Wed Sep 08, 2010 8:42 pm

Via PZ.

Catholicism finds the fact that we don't love the Pope confusing and distressing. Discuss.

The atheists’ utter loathing, all the same, is at times a little frightening in its sheer vicious irrationality. These people are in the grip of a barely restrained hysteria. Take the current issue of the New Humanist, subtitle: “Ideas for godless people”; this issue gives a good idea of what it must be like being godless, and at least it makes you grateful not to be godless yourself. “If you were invited to address Benedict XVI during his UK visit,” the New Humanist introduces its special issue, “what would you say to him? Richard Dawkins, Philip Pullman, Claire Rayner, Ben Goldacre and many more take part in our Pope quiz.”

Claire Rayner’s offering gives a good idea of the tone and the rational level at which these contributions are conducted: “I have no language with which to adequately describe Joseph Alois Ratzinger, AKA the Pope. In all my years as a campaigner I have never felt such animus against any individual as I do against this creature. His views are so disgusting, so repellent and so hugely damaging to the rest of us, that the only thing to do is to get rid of him.” (What that means is not explained).
Oh yeah, that''s just dripping with unrestrained hysteria. :ddpan:
In the best laid plans of history lie the ruins of the past
And a chronicle of suffering shows the mythic pall they cast
To believe is true religion, but to see is truth at last
Oh no, too late to hold a trial, time doesn't wait for the watchmaker's dial

EDIT: Whoops, dopple-pozt.

My google-fu indicates that the visit has its own website.

No wonder it's costing us so fucking much to have him over: http://www.thepapalvisit.org.uk/

Edit: They've got a fucking 24 hour a day live webcast. :ddpan: wtf?

Fuck the fucking pope
It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

(My emphasis)

I do hope this is hyperbole, though the structure of the statement is ill-suited for use in hyperbole. Sure, Ratzinger is a reactionary prick. He's the pope, what'd you expect? But he's hardly the most dispicable person on the planet. I'm pretty sure Charles Taylor is worse. Glenn Beck is probably worse, and I'm sure you could all come up with people who are more evil then the pope.

Her words were spot on, she didn't compare him to Hitler, she merely says that in her sphere she finds him more reprehensible than any other human she has had cause to know. This probably comes from his glaring hypocrisy. Even fucktards like Charles Taylor don't profess to be ideologically perfect whilst defending the indefensible. The Pope does. He tells gullible folks that the spread of Aids is exacerbated by the use of condoms despite knowing this is a lie,Taylor thinks Voodoo is the answer, I'm not sure even Ahmadinejhad would be cheeky enough to try that on, or maybe he would. I'm willing to give the Iranian the benefit of the doubt until he actually does it. At least we've found the level at which that prick Ratzinger operates. Thank fuck he's not permitted to have a real military.

Glen beck is a whore who will do almost anything required to make a buck but even I find it hard to believe he would protect child rapists and promote the spread of Aids.
At least I'm housebroken.

From what I've seen, I wouldn't put it past him. Regardless, I think Glenn Beck is mostly (though not entirely) to causing havoc in America, while the Pope's capacity for lunacy is global.

Perhaps given time but he is not yet at Papal levels of dickishness.
As an aside how does one get a phrase such as "Papal levels of dickishness" to trend on Twitter. Would I need a Twitter account?

Not sure, I don't have twitter, but I get the impression you'd have to concatenate it to something like "popedick" for it to become successful.

Rule Britania > :hehe: That T-shirt is so going on my birthday wishlist.

Edit: I'd have to take it out with me on a day I'm wearing this one, and swap them over repeatedly throughout the day just to confuse people:
