A Utilitarian Pervert's Argument Against Religion

Post by camoguard » Wed Aug 25, 2010 6:37 pm

Let's say you were trying to figure out God or gods or Gods or psychic powers or ghosts or science. For all but one of those options, you could spend your whole life uselessly running in circles while light bulbs start working, radios play, planes fly, rockets shoot planes that fly, and technology even benefits radical Luddites as they invent better suicide vests. But science is worth it because science accumulates. I've got a bunch of science that doesn't work in my spare room along with old video game consoles that do work.

But I jest, really that's time you could spend trying to sleep with more people than Clint Eastwood has. That's time you could spend understanding that minority that rubs you the wrong way when you look at them. That's time you could spend finding which sexual position you like best per partner cross referenced to adjust for how many partners are present. Or you could be reviewing porn which would save me time because then I could just watch the good stuff.

Unlike God, porn and potential sexual partners exist. I've converted images into masturbation aids and I've converted random strangers into intimate lovers. I even think it's repeatable. There's murkiness and gray areas to uncover, but the existence of such a thing is undeniable. I don't have to appeal to the trees and the flowers and the Goldilocks factors to explain how perfectly three bodies fit together. I can demonstrate on a case by case basis.

So while it's fair for someone to wonder what's beyond the veil of comprehension. I want to posit that there are many many valuable reasons why I for one don't waste a lot of time squaring away the theists so that they can be enlightened as well. Certainly, I'd love people to see the truth, but much of that burden is up to them. And in the meantime, I'm working to make my sex life imitate Moore's Law. And it's not just about sex. I'm also trying to beat Dragon Age and revisit Mass Effect. But much of it is sex and to me, that's a more practical pursuit than arguing theology.

Thank you very much.

I like to perfect my wanking technique.

I'm ninth dan, but I think there is more to come, figuratively speaking. :smug:

I was totally serious. I'm even willing to argue about it. But really, my current quest that takes up what would be my church time is finding people that are both perverts and atheists. I've found a few. I've settled for a Pagan a time or too but I feel like "atheist cults" would be better sex cults because we could focus on the technique of the cult without having to convince people why we are there. I'm going to start by reading some more about sociology.

Around the time I realised I was an atheist, it also occurred to me that no-one was watching my every move, or judging my every thought. This was an amazing moment, as it meant I could watch porn without any guilt. :shiver: Or make it. : shifty :

I do sometimes wonder what the version of me who figured it all out two decades earlier would be doing now, though. His life would, no doubt, be quite different to mine - however mine's worked out pretty incredible in it's own right, and I wouldn't wish for another.

I kind of want to join an atheist sex cult now...

Are you arguing from a moral standpoint, then?
EDIT: I say kind of, I mean REALLY.

I always thought a Utilitarian Pervert was one of those people who sat on washing machines and tumble driers for kicks.

I'm half serious. I'm not ready at this time to start one, but I think the common feature of being atheists is a great starting point for creating a clique of people who just want to rationally explore pleasures of the flesh. The traditional marriage is closely bound to religion as just another discardable value. Not everybody is going to click with me or my girlfriend. And not everything is expected to last. But would I seriously start such an organization if I had more of a plan then I do right now? Yes I would.

But first, I would figure out a way to bring in the right kind of people and protect their privacy and manage through each of our growths. I think it's probably inevitable that there will be need for lots of talking and lots of ebbing and flowing as people investigate what they are willing to do in person versus what they can imagine doing. I think that border is a fascinating one to think about.

Oh yeah. Being in the cult, btw, is not consent. It is consent to discuss things which may require consent down the road. After all, we are first rational and then we are animal. I'll call us ranimals.

Do you remember Bones' relieved, smiling, understanding face in Star Trek IV after he worriedly asked Scotty about changing the future by revealing the formula for transparant aluminium to a 20th century man and Scotty replied "How do we know he didn't invent it in the first place?"

That's me now.
