Women bishops can be created, Church of England rules

Post by RuleBritannia » Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:28 pm

The Church of England's ruling synod has decided that women bishops should be created.

The synod has given minimal concessions to traditionalist Anglicans who opposed the move.

They had sought exemptions from serving under women bishops and guaranteed access to a male alternative.

But the synod decided that it would be up to the women bishops to decide the identity of any bishop coming into their dioceses.

They would also have the ability to dictate the functions these bishops could carry out.

The BBC's religious correspondent Robert Pigott said women bishops would have only to consult a code of practice guiding them in their dealings with traditionalists.

Proposals to create a class of male-only bishops to oversee traditionalist parishes were rejected on Saturday.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, had put their personal prestige behind the compromise plan, which would have allowed parishes unwilling to serve under a woman bishop to call upon the oversight of a male alternative.

It would also have given that alternative bishop considerable legally-backed independence and autonomy as part of a "joint jurisdiction" over those parishes.

Although the proposal gained a majority of votes in the synod as a whole, it failed because clergy - who vote separately from lay people and bishops - defeated it by just five votes.

But traditionalists have warned that the decision could result in many of them leaving the Church of England.

I have confused feelings about this. On the one hand, it is a good thing that they are embracing equality and standing up to the 'traditionalists' - on the other hand, their religion (and hence their whole church) is based on lies and superstition - so who really gives a fuck! :dono:

Its a load of twaddle in my book.

Earlier today whilst driving I was listening, probably with my jaw hanging open in astonishment to a programme on Radio 4. The series is called Beyond Belief and it is a comparative religion programme. I never usually listen to is was better than Dale Winton (he can fuck right off!), covering for Steve Wright on Radio 2..well marginally.

There was a representative Jewish person, Sikh, an Islamic Imam and the chair. The subject? The significance of hair in religion!

What a load of utter balderdash.

I'm tired.

34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

Women and homosexuals, some of them, annoy me sometimes. Instead of rejecting outright these religions and telling them to :pawiz: , some of these dopes want to embrace that which would want to repress them.

That where liberal theological deepities and Clintonesque (Bill) word warping come into play. The Bibble goes from being "The Word of God" to "Inspired writing" and a product of it's time... I can't be arsed to continue this rant.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Ingredients for female bishop:

Dour pout
Wrinkly leather-jacket skin
Silly hat
Knobbly knees
Glass of port

Stew together for 2000 years in an sealed enclave and hope for the best...

On one level, I don't give a flying fuck. It's all woo.
On the other hand, I think it's a good thing, because this will probably make a fairly large number of people leave the church, and if they feel that strongly about something as stupid as whether their shaman has tits or balls, they won't be joining another one. Anythjing which reduces tha power of any church is fine by me.

Total bollocks, no wonder it's called Beyond Belief.

The only relatively sane person was the Iman, when he said that British muslims should dress to the country of their birth and not just blindly follow some middle-eastern tribal tradition. I forgot the guys name. I must take note, because I've heard him on this programme a couple of times now and he's smart enough to criticise the problems in his religion.

Rum - used to listen to the Beyond Belief podcast but had to stop, it infuriated me too much.
