How Many Anti-Semitic Americans Are Their?
Re: How Many Anti-Semitic Americans Are Their?
Depends what you mean by antisemitic. My Grandfather was a the first person in his family to go to college. He was a good mid-western scotch-irish/german sort of fellow and very ambitious and practical. When his younger son introduced his fiance to him and announced that she was Jewish he threw a conniption and told them they would ruin their lives. I'm not sure he had anything against my Aunt personally. And it was 1939. Yes they got married without his blessings and had a good life and it only took Grandpa a couple of years to come around. Was he antisemitic? Probably, but not as bad as my father who never did like my Aunt until the day he died, and had more than one antisemitic story that he liked to tell. My mother on the other hand stood up for my aunt from day one and told Grandpa that she wasn't taught that way in her family. She grew up in New York City. But, you know, one day she told me that she really had a problem with a certain kind of low class New York City Jew. Just didn't want to be around them. So what's antisemitic? I guess it's whether you still belong to the country club that doesn't admit them. My aunt is a good lady. The last one of them alive, though not much mind left.

I'm anti-asshole. Someday that may be un-PC.
