Macuse on the Problems of Violence:
"This was the experience of the civil rights movement: that the others practice the violence, that the others are the violence, and that against this violence legality is problematic from the very beginning."
So if the others ARE the violence it follows that violence against them is justified. This would be counterviolence.
And when it the realm of violence, it is only the degree of force which determines who is the victor. With entire system of law and order, the military and police protecting the rich from the poor, only a force more powerful than the entire capitalist system is required to defeat it. Even millions of protesters would not have the ability to fight the police or the military, unlike previous phases of history where street protests could turn revolutionary.

The problem of violence...
To reject violence apriori is to accept the violence of the system in all its forms. Marcuse rejects violence because the enemy he and we fight, capitalism, will crush any real opposition toward it, therefore to engage in it would be an act of suicide during current conditions. However, if a catastrophe were to strike it, such as the very real possibility of nuclear war, it would alter the situation considerably.

Re: Scientific Proof Of God
No shit Sherlock. Look, Capitalism has been in crisis and about to fail at least since Marx gave name to it. How's that working out? Hoping that the cleansing fire of a nuclear holocaust will save us from Capitalism is a bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water, along with all the bathroom fixtures, and the house they sit in. That kind of thinking is just plain old misplaced millenialism - a desire for death expressed as a hope that we're living in the end of days.superuniverse wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 2:09 amThe problem of violence...

You take 'Revolution' too literally. It's a revolution in thinking, in the awareness of who and what we are in relation to the world, that Marcuse hopes to inspire. From that all the rest will flow naturally. You want to overthrow capitalism? Stop buying shit you don't need and start helping others in your community in whatever way you can.

Re: Scientific Proof Of God
Now we are not even talking about revenge. This certainly must be factored into any act of violence. The oppressed masses unleash their terrifying vengeance on their oppressors. This is how history works.

Lucifer, (Latin: Lightbearer) Greek Phosphorus, or Eosphoros, in classical mythology, the morning star (i.e., the planet Venus at dawn); personified as a male figure bearing a torch, Lucifer had almost no legend, but in poetry he was often herald of the dawn.

Re: Scientific Proof Of God
It's only natural to feel that retribution is justified when someone has wronged you. But what do you do with those feelings when you realise how you've wronged yourself and others?superuniverse wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 4:58 pmNow we are not even talking about revenge. Retribution is not only natural, it's a good way to obtain closure, for instance I'd need to tar and feather a certain XXXX for inflicting so much depeche mode on me.

Re: Scientific Proof Of God
Sure, but the myth of Lucifer --as the morning star-- is based on passages from the book of Isaiah dealing with the fall of a Babylonian king/protector/son of the morning/Venus/O Lucifer!Svartalf wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 3:33 amI thought the protector of Babylon was Marduk, not Ishtar?Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 12:03 am"Morning Star" --the old protector of Babylon?
