Without generalizations, we can't communicate. Generalizing doesn't require that we consider ever single person to be the same.

However, Christians believe in God - is a generalization. Are there Christians who don't believe in God - maybe - I've heard of Christian Agnostics. Does that mean I can't generalize to indicate that, generally speaking, Christians do believe in God. They do.

Acknowledging the cultures exist in general - Arabic culture - urban culture - southern culture - Brazilian culture - these are all "generalizations." Do all Brazilians behave the same way? Of course not. Is there such a thing as Brazilian culture, generally speaking. Yes of course there is.

Muslims. By the very act of calling them a name, we are generalizing. Naming any group is a generalization.

If we can't make any generalizations, the the most we can do is say: Muslims are a group of humans that each believe different things. That doesn't help anybody at all. If we can't generalize, then we can't say that "Muslims are a group of humans who believe in "allah" and his Prophet Muhammed, and recognize the Koran as the inspired words of Allah as spoken through the Prophet Muhammed."

Sure - not all of everybody is anything. But, this whole idea of "not generalizing" is really just a linguistic trick to require people to hold positive views of certain things. What you're really bitching about is people harboring a NEGATIVE opinion of certain generalizations. Am I right?

The second line of my last post beginning with the word "yeah" acknowledges only that most Muslims aren't inclined to be terrorists, which isn't what you were saying initially.
