What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Odd that, never been met with silence. In fact, they very clearly and openly state that it's no longer applicable, even if they do so poorly. Muslims never state as such.

I'm trying not to make any bold and offensive generalising claim about the intelligence (or lack thereof) of the average person, but in my experience of communicating with many people throughout the years, I can only deduce that they're severely lacking in the cognitive department. Take for example the average Christian fundamentalist: almost all of them seem to have trouble understanding even the most basic tenants of western science, literature, music and cohesion.
Of course, there's millions of very smart people in the world. but almost every conversation I've initiated has resulted in disdain.
Forgive me, but I'm not going to pretend someone possesses a levelheaded degree of intelligence after hearing them inform me that sperm is produced by the spine. It doesn't matter how liberal I may be, I simply can't reconcile it with the perception that everyone is 'equal'.
