Re: the problem with having nice religious friends...
I don't have a problem with religious people...as long they don't push it on me or infringe on my civil rights, even the subtle stuff doesn't bother me. People talk about shit I don't believe in or am not interested in all the time, religion is just one of them.
Sometimes, you can even benefit from it...I live in woowoo central, and an friend of mine is into crystals. But she's also a great masseuse, so I tolerate five minutes of her crystal magic to get a half hour free massage. She knows I am an atheist and I don't believe in any of that, and I never pretend it works, but I do tell her I appreciate her efforts and that she cares about me.
Besides, you could almost call me religious...I am a member of this religious organization.

Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~

Here's a bit of truth for you: Your version of reality is not reality.Gawdzilla wrote:Sorry if you're so far out of touch with reality that you don't get it.Seth wrote:I'm not the one raving that "bless you" is "propaganda...solely for gaining Heaven Points (tm)." Your being an intolerant anti-religious bigot is your fault, however. That's not my fault, however.
My parents were pro-choice, and atheists as well. But they were not intolerant bigots like you.Maybe if your parents had been more pro-choice the problem would have resolved sooner.

Re: the problem with having nice religious friends...
It's the deer-in-the-headlights shit that bugs me.
"Good job on the plumbing, Ralph!"
"Thanks Jesus it went smoothly!"
"I was going thank you, but if you insist..."
The assumption that I share their beliefs or even care about them gets tedious after sixty years. And knowing that they would be chewing the carpet if I dared to assert a different viewpoint makes it very tempting to do, but the danger that they'll act like Christians and try to sabotage me keeps me from doing so, for the safety of my family.

You're here, so I doubt that. How could such people raise someone like you?Seth wrote:My parents were pro-choice, and atheists as well.
Re: the problem with having nice religious friends...
Almost? You are most certainly religious if you belong to that organization. The problem that most ignorant Atheists have is that they are unable to distinguish between religion and theism, and they are generally unable to comprehend the fact that they themselves are practicing members of the Atheist religion.maiforpeace wrote:I don't have a problem with religious people...as long they don't push it on me or infringe on my civil rights, even the subtle stuff doesn't bother me. Re: the problem with having nice religious friends...
Seth, you're every bit as tolerant as Joseph Mengele.
Re: the problem with having nice religious friends...
Which, even if true (which it's not of course) is orders of magnitude more tolerant than you are.Gawdzilla wrote:Seth, you're every bit as tolerant as Joseph Mengele.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Tolerating stupid things is abetting them. You'd have to be stupid to do so.Seth wrote:Which, even if true (which it's not of course) is orders of magnitude more tolerant than you are.Gawdzilla wrote:Seth, you're every bit as tolerant as Joseph Mengele.
