Attempting to “discuss” the contradictions in the bible with the indoctrinated faithful is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It only wastes your time and annoys the pig.

This seems to me to be the meat of the matter? Just “excelling” at a subject means nothing. Knowledge is a great tool, but it is only that, and a tool is only as good as the user. You must have the intelligence to apply your knowledge or sadly you are SOL. For example (granted a bit extreme) Kim Peek (The real rain man). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Peek This dude was amazing. He could remember everything he read, but totally lacked the ability to apply any of the vast amounts of knowledge he had.
