His live performances are FAR better than his books, IMO. The warmth and humour in his live ripostes, too often come across as pure vitriol in his writing. You need to see his facial expressions to appreciate that he was giving more than that. When I read GING, I found it unnecessarily aggressive and uncompromising. But, at the time, I had not seen any of his live debating and I missed grafting his personality onto his words - something that enriched Hitch 22 for me. I am sure that knowing his voice and mannerisms would add a lot to a re-reading of GING. I think I will dig it out of the book-pile... :tea:
