"Base" text is right, Svarty

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Yep, I was going to say the same. Plus it helps them weed out some of the stuff they'd rather pretend doesn't exist.rachelbean wrote:Yeah, they are all the time. It's quite normal for evangelicals to give out paperback new testaments (they are super cheap in bulk).tattuchu wrote:Interesting in that it's only the New Testament. Which is funny since so many of them do tend to go all OT fire and brimstone on so many subjects... or is Rebbe Saul enough for that?Bella Fortuna wrote:Yep, I was going to say the same. The evangelical "Good News" type people don't. They're all about Jesus and love.tattuchu wrote:But then why do the Bible lovers always quote the OT stuff the mostBella Fortuna wrote:Yep, I was going to say the same. Oh. Well that does sound like Good News, then. Perhaps there's something to it all? I mean, I'm all for loveBella Fortuna wrote: The evangelical "Good News" type people don't. They're all about Jesus and love.

There are plenty of Bible lovers who stick with the gospels and rather not be reminded of some of the other stuff. There is a big difference between a pentecostal baptist ala westbro and an evangelical ala THIS (the church I was raised in):tattuchu wrote:But then why do the Bible lovers always quote the OT stuff the mostBella Fortuna wrote:Yep, I was going to say the same. That depends entirely on which particular bit of apologetic bollocks they're engaged in at the time. If you're challenging them on why unruly children are no longer stoned to death in front of the town, or why it's suddenly OK to wear mixed fibres or eat shellfish, then it's the 'new covenant' drivel. OTOH, if it's the 'homosexuality is condemned' horseshit, then the OT is infallible.tattuchu wrote:But then why do the Bible lovers always quote the OT stuff the most
That's apologetics for you.

That is quite the most disturbing thing I've seen in a while. (The bookThinking Aloud wrote:Both kids brought one of these home this afternoon. And it doesn't even have the really gory bits in.

To children?!
Who paid for this, "we should lynch the bloody lot of them" as they might say in the red tops.

Looking up the website listed in the introduction, it appears that it's a project by some evangelising arm of the CofE, who have sold around 650000 to groups, churches and individuals to give out. So my guess is that some well-meaning arse has bought a bunch and distributed them to the local schools as a gift.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:What the...Thinking Aloud wrote:Both kids brought one of these home this afternoon. Who exactly gave these to them? Was it the school themselves, or some god-nut visiting the school to do a 'guest' assembly or something?
The introductory text also tells the impressionable young reader that the NT contains "eyewitness accounts of the life of Jesus".

And there's also a lot of stuff about Jesus and the Queen.
