Re: The reverse missionaries.
My niece approached me for funds to support her and her family on their missionary jaunt to ... VIENNA!
IF I had the money I would be taking Ayaan to Vienna to see the Lipizzaners.

I saw 5 minutes of the show - seemed that most people were not against him spreading his message on theological grounds...........they just didn't give a shit.

The catlickers are having to go farther and farther from the 21st Century to find troopers. The bulk of new priests, so I've heard, come from "third world" countries these days. Seems education and X-boxes are interfering with their recruiting in "first world" countries.

The fact that the priesthood no longer is a cushy, sometimes very well paid, job, and is no longer a way to get oneself set up for life in relative comfort may have to do with it too.

Yeah, they are no longer automatically included in the city councils, etc., so there's less power involved, and thus less money.Svartalf wrote:The fact that the priesthood no longer is a cushy, sometimes very well paid, job, and is no longer a way to get oneself set up for life in relative comfort may have to do with it too.

That said, I have to admit, I go on a missionary to Vienna several times a year. But I always end up in an extraterritorial area making chants about never even testing the bomb again.

Yes, The Lippizaners are beautiful.

Yes, I especially remember one drunk conversation with a brilliant Austrian physicist, who also is a devout catholic. That was "interesting".Gawdzilla wrote:But they're catlickers, right, not True Christians?

Out of all the religions, I do give Catholics credit for providing the more interesting serious conversations though...many of them don't take it personally if you declare your atheism, and simply assume from the start you are going to hell. But they'll still talk to you - there's something to be said for all their missions to leper colonies.MiM wrote:Yes, I especially remember one drunk conversation with a brilliant Austrian physicist, who also is a devout catholic. Never got that one... maybe having been raised catholic is destroying my ability to be objective, but I'm of the impression that regardless of the mistakes an faults of the RCC, the protestants and derivatives always manage to have even worse faults (and sometimes even more basic) to their accounts.MiM wrote:Yes, I especially remember one drunk conversation with a brilliant Austrian physicist, who also is a devout catholic. Where do I gotta go to get me some funding for a mission to Nottingham?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
