Crumple, the atheist angel of death, approves of this development. :crumple:

I only see one real problem with what he proposes: It's probably not gonna happen. OTOH, it has already happened in one sense: Buddhism. True, there are religious Buddhists who go to temples to worship and ask for Buddha to bring them good luck or help their child get into a good college, but the lion's share of Buddhism is about training the mind, cultivating insight, peace, harmony, generosity, etc. It incorporates art, ritual and culture as an envelope of sorts to carry the central message(s), which are not ultimately mystical or woo-oriented.

Here's the Atheist Temple in our neighborhood, with a couple of worshipers.

Successful religions steal successful elements from earlier forms. The idea of a weekly gathering venue for creative thought, reflection and social networking when you are small minority intent on growing your influence is one well worth the trouble to experiment with.

I want a black tower, looming ominously over a neighbouring church, with a huge display screen randomly showing (on the church side) various Ratzian smileys...

It will have a font of miraculously icy-cold gin on the inside...

Cardigans must be warn...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

A tower with a dish on it signifying both a female and a male side to the gathering? Why not call it a radio-telescope? :dunno:

I'd rather have an Ice Fortress of Atheism, or some-such.

I'd like to think the Dawk is being machievellian and feeding the controversy here to get this idea into orbit. I'd like to think that but the reality is a man afraid of the very cultural progress he himself as unleashed. He doesn't want to be labeled as the man who killed religion and unleashed unimaginable dark forces from the universal id in three hundred years. Very obviously there are advantages to a place, and a common architectural form, in which those with no belief can share & evolve coherent common values and so on. When we conquer the earth and the last priest is strangled by his own entrails - a place to celebrate global peace.

Once this opens, I'm going to join the choir and beautifully not sing all my favourite hymns.
