On California coast, atheists nudge out Nativity scenes
Re: On California coast, atheists nudge out Nativity scenes
This is bad form. I don't get why some American atheists are such arseholes. Sure I know many are discriminated and ostrasised but shitting on religion is not a way forward. They aren't like blacks or gays who have no choice in the way they are. Civil disobedience comes across as bitchiness for them.

Come on over here and deal with the religiotards for a while, Ani. You'll either run home or join the battle, I'm betting.Animavore wrote:This is bad form. Well yes, I'm aware a lot of your religious are of a 'tardness not seen in Europe except in pathetically small numbers but I don't agree with riling them. Campaign to get the religious scenes moved from public places payed with taxpayer money, sure, but putting up images os Satan etc.. is being unnecessarily contentious.Gawdzilla wrote:Come on over here and deal with the religiotards for a while, Ani. The way the poltics works here, religionists always line up with the republicans. That's how the 1% get away with pretty much anything. It is not unusual for Christian democrats to have some social democrat ideas in Europe. Here, the religionists are sold on the idea that government is bad because it takes their rights away. Freedom of speech etc shit.

Ani, they won't stop at getting their way, they will only stop at making sure we have to follow their way. This is not a war that will end in a compromise.Animavore wrote:Well yes, I'm aware a lot of your religious are of a 'tardness not seen in Europe except in pathetically small numbers but I don't agree with riling them. They want a government that conforms to their narrow, bigoted image of how the country should be, and they work to hijack democracy for their ends. Hence the fight.Tero wrote:The way the poltics works here, religionists always line up with the republicans. That's how the 1% get away with pretty much anything. Freedom of speech, yes. Put up Happy Christmas instead of Happy Holidays on your private property if you want. Your own constitution prohibhits public money used to promote religion. Come at it from that angle. Take it to the ACLU. I know conflict can'tbe avoided but why alienate yourself totally?Tero wrote:The way the poltics works here, religionists always line up with the republicans. These public fights are intended to raise awareness that there are a lot of people who think that religion is bullshit. That awareness gives permission to fence-sitters to join the fastest growing group of people in America - those who do not identify with any faith, or none.

This is probably the most important reason believers have for wanting us to shut up and sit quietly at the back of the bus. They want no change at all, and they intend to get that by promoting "slow, careful, and polite" change. I take my model from the Sixties.amused wrote:These public fights are intended to raise awareness that there are a lot of people who think that religion is bullshit. I sometimes think that the fear of how they will act if the restraint of promised damnation is removed motivates some believers to cling tightly to that concept.Tero wrote:"You tell the people they are descended from animals and they will act like animals!"

Sometimes I think the religis people here do not actually want to take from the rich and give to the poor. Cause the poor are all sinners. Rich people earned their $ by hard work. Besides, the rich support the church and pay the nice pastor's salary.

And God rewards a religious person by giving him or her wealth. So those slobs that are starving in the streets must not be good Christians and are therefore not worth the effort.Tero wrote:Sometimes I think the religis people here do not actually want to take from the rich and give to the poor. Oh wait, that the Libertarians, not the Christians. My bad.
