I'm not sure that eating of flesh is against vegetarianism if there is consent, so eating Jesus is probably not a big deal in that sense, but yes cannibalism and I'm sure there is some bylaw somewhere specifying it's only okay to eat Jesus™ brand people

But did Jesus explicitly give his consent?

He said, "Take this, all of you, and eat it. This is my body, which has been given up for you. Do this in memory of me."

Can I do the same? If I give my friends crisps and tell them the crisps turn into my flesh in their mouth (by magic). I could use salt and vinegar flavour Discos.

I've been wondering about this. If transubstantiation is a fact and not merely symbolic, does that mean the Church sanctions ritual cannibalism?

Also, are Christian vegetarians hypocritical for eating Jesus' flesh, or do they make exceptions for human flesh (thus cannibalism) or do they make exceptions for the flesh of deities in human form (thus deiphagy)?

I'm wondering if there's not some ancient paganistic ritual behind it?

Yep. For example, Dionysus, Greek god of wine, was said to die each year and be reborn - symbolised by grape vines dying back and regrowing. Wine was said to be the transubstantiation of his blood. There are others...
