Just the thought that people think babies could get trapped in a middle world between the real world and heaven if they aren't baptized is so ridiculous it's hard to get upset.

Yes, but amazingly, once upon a time, I felt that as a very real fear (well, a nagging uncertainty anyway) - and that was as a 30-something year old with a science degree.

I think it's very relevant. There definitely seems to be some human need for ceremonies of this nature, but your example (and all the myriad of secular weddings and funerals) show that ceremony does not imply religious...

since Limbo was officially closed not too long ago, you'd think that christenings had now become defunct....? either way, i'd attend, but refuse to enter the church. maybe that's just me though.
