I like cheese. But I can't eat it anymore because my cholesterol is all fucked up.

So, in answer to the OP, yes cheese is stupid.

Sure, but when it comes right down to it, if he is a deist, then this deity that he believes in is no different than the actual laws of nature that brought the universe into existence in the first place. It's not a person or whatever. Deists may as well be atheists because all they believe in are uninvolved prime movers - some force that triggered the start (whatever and whenever that was). Joy of life and wonder at existence aren't dependent on deism any more than it is on theism.
I'm not sure he believes in anything. He's just happy and loves being alive and expresses it.

I'm a big fan of life myself. It's a great thing to maximize the number of happy minutes.

I am in agreement with CES on this matter. You will find on average that atheists seem more intelligent than the average Christian. This is mostly due to the fact that the majority of atheists arrive at this through thinking, reading and time. The average Christian believes in what another Christian has told them and few ever take the time to take a critical glance at the bible. Even if they do, only fleetingly, to the point of confirming their already biased ideology. This is not to say all atheists are intellectually developed. I've met quite a few people who proclaim to be atheists and when I ask they tell me silly things like, "Just because, I mean it would be stupid if there was, its all brainwashing, dude."

This is what I call the rebel atheist. I have to admit, the egoist in me wants to deny that we hold the same stance on this matter, when my reasoning is much more sophisticated and knowledgeable but I do recognize that even if I want to fall victim to the Scotsman Fallacy, I won't allow myself. Still, a pity that some hold convictions on things without reason.

As far as believers being stupid? No. One of my most intelligent friends before relocated was a Christian, though he wasn't much into it. Double major in economics and political science, was picking up Russian on his own. This has been one of the few people I met in my day to day life that I truly respected as an intellectual equal. Whenever we talked about religion I could sense that was a part of his life where he didn't bring his critical thinking skills to bear, it was enough for him to just believe.

At times it pained me, that someone I respected and liked limited themselves, but I just ignored it. This OP is full of shit and has little life experience if you really think they are stupid.
I can live with doubt, and uncertainty, and not knowing. I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. It doesn’t frighten me. - Richard Feynman

If you are a new user, Dawkboy(I hold no opinion either way as to this "sockestry"), then get used to this sort of thing. Serious discussions can be intermingled with light hearted-ness every now and again. No reason to, as they say, blow a basket. As much as I am an intellectual and a thinker, I enjoy the banter you find here.

In which case, Rationalia has been successful in their attempts. :td: :hehe:
